Man vrs. Horse

In Llanwrtyd , Wells they have horse racing just like they do here in the US. But in Wells the horse is not prepared to beat another horse, but a human. They allow several mounted horses to race a bunch of skilled marathon runners. It started in 1980 when a man was arguing that he could beat a horse in a race. After 25 years of tradition, in 2004 a man named Huw Lobb beat a horse in a 22 mile race. Each year the prize money increases by 1, 000 dollars and Lobb won 25, 000 dollars. I think its good that the race is not focused primarily on making money. But people still gamble on this event. A man had to pay off a bet of 16/1 when Lobb won.

I think its offensive that its not enough that we abuse horses to such an extreme, but we also feel that we must now compete with them. We are stripping horses of their dignity.
